Ed Mangano also is supposed to report to a different federal prison that day to serve 12 years after being convicted in 2019 of accepting bribes and kickbacks from former Oyster Bay concessionaire Harendra Singh -- and a longtime family friend-- in return for pressuring the town to guarantee $20 million in loans from private lendors to Singh. A five-member panel unanimously agreed that Genova, as town attorney and deputy supervisor,  violated the rules of professional conduct by accepting bribes from Singh to sign off on the illegal deals that promised lenders that the town would make good on the multi-million dollar loans distributed to Singh if the concessionaire defaulted. The Harris Beach law firm has tentatively agreed to pay Oyster Bay Town $1.25 million to settle the town's lawsuit alleging the law firm engaged in a conspiracy to "misappropriate" taxpayer money through $20 million in fraudulent loan guarantees, according to a draft resolution posted on the town's website. The Town Board is scheduled to approve the settlement tomorrow. If approved, the powerful and ubiquitous law firm -- best known for its Democratic political connections -- will make payment to the town within five business days, according to the settlement papers. The deal will settle all claims by both the town and Harris Beach, which had filed a counter lawsuit against former town attorney Len Genova and former Republican County Executive Ed Mangano, without either side admitting any liability, the papers show.                                                                                   First Page of Legislative Budget Review report Financial reports are often difficult to interpret and that's the case with a memo issued today by the county legislature's independent Office of Budget Review reporting on Nassau's 2021 year-end budget results. The memo pretty much follows the voluminous Annual Comprehensive Financial Report issued by the county comptroller last month. Both say Nassau ended the year with nearly a $480 million surplus, primarily because of sales tax revenue came in way over budget.
