Malfunction at Eisenhower Park Fireworks Show last night (Updated)
An odd video popped up in the inbox last night, showing a fire, behind a chain link fence, followed by two fireworks exploding, one after another.
No good explanation except a caption that said, "The NASA county fire show...Friday night."
Nassau? There was supposed to be a fireworks show at Eisenhower Park on Friday night called "Celebrate America Fireworks and Show" hosted by TD Bank.
Fireworks by Grucci. Show beginning at 9:30 p.m.
After making inquiries to a few sources, nobody reported malfunctions at the show. It was a puzzle.
Then Newsday solved it, with this headline this afternoon:
"Fireworks misfire, start blaze at Eisenhower Park show finale."
The story reports, "The incident occurred about 30 seconds into the show's big finale, shortly before 10 p.m., according to photos and videos shared by attendees with Newsday."
Ahh, now the video makes sense.
Here is a series of sequential stills from the video (didn't want to identify the children's voices that could be heard on the video.)
Update: County officials weren't talking about the malfunction on Friday night, though.
Here is a tweet from Police Commissioner Pat Ryder at at 10:52 p.m. The video of the malfunction had been sent at 10:28 so the incident at already occurred.
At least nobody was reported hurt.
