It looks like Repubican President Donald Trump did not make a good enough job offer to Nassau Republican County Executive Bruce Blakeman.
Sources said Blakeman had been hoping for a significant appointment in the new Trump administration in return for his strong support of the now re-elected president. As well as a job for his wife, Segal, who is a Nassau family court judge.
But apparently it didn't happen.
Because Blakeman, whose county executive term ends this December, is having a kick-off re-election rally at noon today at the American Legion Post 1066 in Massapequa.
And it sound like a traditional Nassau GOP event.
"Blakeman will be joined by over 1,000 supporters from every corner of the county and will speak about his 3.5 years in office in addition to his vision for the future," the press alert says.
It adds,"This will be one of the closest watched races in the nation in 2025" -- which actually sounds a bit hyperbolic.
Blakeman will be accompanied by many of Nassau's other notable Republican officials, who also happen to be running for re-election:
Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly
Nassau County Comptroller Elaine Phillips
Nassau County Clerk Maureen O'Connell
Town of Hempstead Supervisor Don Clavin
Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino
Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena
Mayor of Glen Cove Pam Panzenbeck
Interestingly there are no members of the Republican controlled legislature listed; maybe because there is a legislative meeting today and it would be bad form to miss a governmental function for a political rally. But the legislative meeting, which usually starts at 1 p.m., has been pushed back to 2 p.m. today, suggesting the Republican legislators will be at the rally.
Democratic county legislator Seth Koslow of Merrick has announced that he will challenge Blakeman this fall for the county executive's job.
Koslow's campaign to date appears to be focused on attacking Blakeman for creating an armed volunteer special deputy force of Nassau civilians to be called up in an emergency -- a group dubbed by Koslow and fellow Democrats as "blakeman's militia."
Don't know if the militia attack will have legs.
And somebody should have second thoughts about Koslow's campaign slogan, which can be read two ways:
But nobody, by now, should be questioning whether Blakeman is running again.
