Expect chaos at the Coliseum this week

Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale

Be prepared to hunker down, residents of Salisbury, East Meadow and Uniondale.

Traffic will be a nightmare on Wednesday afternoon around the Nassau Coliseum.

Three political rallies are planned:

Former Republican President Donald Trump, who is running again for president this November, , will be be speaking at 7 p.m. inside the arena.

Nassau Republican Chairman Joseph Cairo called an emergency meeting of GOP leaders last week to help prepare for the event.

Outside the Coliseum, Legis. Carrie Solages, an Elmont Democrat of Haitian descent, has called for a 3 p.m. rally to "end hate" against Haitians and migrants. He cited Trump's allegations during last weeks debate between Trump and Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris, who is seeking to be elected president in November, that Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio are eating pet dogs and cats.

And then today, Nassau Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs emailed supporters to rally against Trump at 4 p.m. Wednesday outside the Coliseum  to "show Republicans that Long Island is NO place for Donald Trump..."

The pet eating allegations are getting the most publicity, with various spoofs and songs appearing all over the internet.

"In Springfield, the people that came in. They're eating the dogs, they're eatng the cats. they're eating the pets of the people that live there," Trump said.

Some claim Trump's allegations are racist. But one of the main sources of the claims is a video of testimony before the Springfield City Council from a black man alleging that Haitians are killing ducks in city parks and eating them.

It's anti-migrant anger,  not racist hate.

Delivering 20,000 migrants to a struggling rust belt city of 58,000, like Springfield, will create anger. Why weren't the Haitians sent to the tony Hamptons or the wealthy enclave on Martha's Vineyard? Both would be much better equipped to handle them.

And it should be noted that desperate people do desperate things. Even Ernest Hemingway admitted in the Moveable Feast that when he was struggling and starving in Paris,  he used to kill pigeons for dinner.

It's one thing to kill dogs and cats just for sake of killing them, which shows an evil soul. But to kill pets and wildlife to eat is a sign of desperation, not wickedness.
