Suozzi successfully stalks Pilip -- Updated

FACEBOOK POST ABOUT TODAY'S GOP RALLY

How does former U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi, a Glen Cove Democrat, always seem to know when and where there are rallies happening for Nassau Legis. Mazi Pilip, his Republican opponent in  the Feb. 13 special election for the vacant 3rd District Congressional seat?

Mazi Pilip

Pilip, a black Orthodox Jew from Great Neck who served on the Israeli Defense Force before immigrating to the U.S, has refused all debates with Suozzi except for one News12 face-to-face on Feb. 8.  For the most part she has allowed a spokesman to answer questions and avoids confrontations.

Update:  Pix11 has scheduled an "exclusive televised political forum" between Pilip and Suozzi on Jan. 30 (Tuesday) at 7-8 p.m., the station has announced.

But Suozzi seems to show up where ever she does appear.

Pilip had her first press conference last Thursday,  outside a temporary shelter in Queens housing thousands of illegal migrants, to denounce open borders and "sanctuary city policies" of Democratic officials, including Suozzi, who served three terms in the 3rd District seat before dropping out in 2022 to run instead for New York governor. (Suozzi lost).

Tom Suozzi

Suozzi crashed Pilip's news conference and held his own, thus creating numerous news stories and headlines about "dueling" news conferences."

Politicians crashing their opponents news conference is a long-standing tradition, but it takes guts to do it.

Pilip had tried to avoid the confrontation by not alerting the New York Times, WNYC and Politico to her news conference, according to Polico.com, apparently fearing the outlets would notify Suozzi.

He still showed up.

Then her campaign sent notice of another news conference yesterday, to "rebuke" one of Suozzi's fundraiser hosts who allegedly had posted anti-semitic posts. The alert was  headed with this bold warning in red:

***NOT FOR PUBLIC DISSEMINATION***

It was clearly intended to prevent Suozzi from crashing. And it worked. But Pilip's news conference appeared to be covered only by the right-wing New York Post -- not left-leaning outlets.

Today, Nassau Republicans held another big rally for Pilip. The candidate, who was observing the Orthodox Sabbath, did not attend.

There was no widespread announcement of the rally, which was meant to kick off a door-knocking campaign. The Republican faithful showed up.

But so did Suozzi! Participants said Suozzi drove by the gathering.

Sure seems like there may be GOP double agents in the large crowd.

Update 2: Suozzi did more than drive by. News 12 reports he held a competing rally across the street from the Republican rally in Massapequa.
