DeRiggi-Whitton elected Democratic minority leader

It wasn't a surprise that Nassau Legis. Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D-Glen Cove) was elected by  her fellow Democrats to replace departing Democratic Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams of Freeport as their new leader in
January.

She has the most experience and apparently enough time to spend as a fulltime leader.

What is somewhat surprising is that Democrats made their selection of DeRiggi-Whitton -- along with Tom Suozzi to run for Congress in the new vacant District 3 seat -- on the first day of Hanukka.

Absent from the above post is the other possible candidate for leader, Arnie Drucker of Plainview, who is an observant Jew. Also absent is incoming Democrat Legis. Scott Davis. But Seth Koslow, who was just elected last month, attended.

As you can see, Nassau Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs rushed to the legislative caucus to attend the this election after announcing the Suozzi selection, which had been expected since Gov. Kathy Hochul apparently gave her blessing to his running to replace Republican George Santos, who was expelled from Congress for lying about his background and finances,

Still waiting for the Republican selections in both areas; for the Congressional District 3 seat and for presiding officer of the Republican controlled legislature.

  1. Legis. DeReggi-Whitton was only the legislator who seriously considered the implications of the proposed casino. Even though she does not live near the casino, she knew in her heart it was wrong for Nassau County residents and voted accordingly. We need more legislators like DeReggi-Whitton!

    1. picking her as leader will just add to the ridiculousness of the legislature. Have you ever listened to her questions?

    2. Delia’s questions are a lot better then the softball questions to Sands from the other legislators during the hearings - gems such as will Sands be offering onsite daycare and employ interpreters for foreign visitors - simply clueless as to what is really important when deciding on a massive project that will be a suburb killer.
