Lafazan and Gillen use Santos arrest to campaign again for Congress.

Democratic Nassau Legis. Josh Lafazan jumped on the first news report that fabulist Republican Congressman George Santos was going to be arrested and immediately sent emails out last night seeking donations: Not for Lafazan's legislative re-election this November, but to run again for the 3rd District Congressional seat.

This morning, former Democratic Hempstead Town Supervisor, Laura Gillen, who lost her Congressional bid for the 4th District seat to Republican Anthony D'Esposito last year after U.S. Rep. Kathleen Rice decided not to run again, tweeted she was in the race again this, year. And asked for money.

Both Lafazan and Gillen lost in Congressional districts last year that were considered Democratic seats.

Santos today denied the charges. And tweeted a request for money after pleading not guilty.

There are other candidates with less familiar names seeking the seat but as of now, Santos has said he is not resigning. The only way he can get kicked out is if the House votes to expel him but Republican House leader Kevin McCarthy, with a narrowGOP  majority, needs Santos' votes.

Lefazan came in third last year for the Democratic nomination to run for the Congressional seat vacated by U.S. Rep. Thomas Suozzi and eventually won by Santos, who has been the subject of hundreds of news stories about fabricating his resume and questionable campaign practices.

The Woodbury Democrat has held some two dozen new conferences calling for Santos to resign while also asking for donations to run again for the 3rd District seat.

Lafazan also claims to be running for re-election to his 18th District Nassau County legislative seat, but nobody seems to have seen any emails soliciting funds for that local race.

In addition, Lafazan has been pretty much a no-show at the legislature while running for congress and campaigning. He was no where to be seen on Monday when the legislature heard a presentation on the proposed Los Vegas Sands casino at the HUB.

First last night, then again this afternoon, Lafazan emailed fundraising pleas.

Last night:

This afternoon:

Gillen, meanwhile, also cited Santos before making the announcement that she is running again.

Naturally she tied D'Esposito to Santos.

D'Esposito has repeatedly called for Santos resignation, as have all Nassau Republicans after it was disclosed by the New York Times in December that he had falsified his public resume.

And D'Esposito is not going anywhere before next year.

Oddly, the day before the Santos arrest story leaked, D'Esposito tweeted a photo of Santos from a story that said D'Esposito is one of the vulnerable congressional seats.

D'Esposito also asked for money.

By the way, what ever happened to Kathleen Rice? She seems to have disappeared since leaving office.

  1. I'm pretty sure Kathy Rice disappeared while still in office too. No one in her district had seen her for years.
