Nothing succeeds like success.

After Nassau Republican Chairman Joe Cairo swept Republicans into office in almost all Nassau contested elections in 2021 and again last year, his annual family charity fundraiser drew twice the crowd as usual Friday night, attendees report.

The dinner at the Sandcastle in Franklin Square was sponsored by the Pat Cairo Family Foundation. It honors Joe Cairo's late wife, Pat. Proceeds go to Calvary hospital, which treated Pat Cairo in her final days, with the aim of helping those struggling with cancer.

Though not a political fundraiser, it has been a must-attend event for politically active Republicans since the foundation was founded in 1995.

A spattering of Democrats have showed up in the past.

Last night there was quite a Democratic contingent, including Tom Garry, law chairman and chief strategist of the state and Nassau Democratic parties, Keith Corbett, Malverne mayor and unsuccessful candidate for Congress last year, Robert Zimmerman, a Great Neck national Democratic committeeman and public relations executive who was defeated by notorious Republican Congressman George Santos last year, Democratic State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and Steve Schlesinger, former Nassau Democratic law chairman whose law firm included Lisa Cairo, Joe Cairo's daughter, until she went onto the bench after being  cross-endorsed in 2020 for family court and then for Supreme Court last year.

Dozens of current judges and would-be judges of both parties were also in attendance, including Segal Blakeman, a matrimonial attorney, and her husband, Republican County Executive Bruce Blakeman.

Sources say Segal Blakeman has been cross endorsed this year to become a family court judge.

Not seen at the event were former Democratic County Executive Laura Curran, who attended in the past but was defeated in 2021 by Blakeman, nor -- no surprise -- State and Nassau Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs.

Nassau CSEA contract deal -- talk of the county for two days -- finally announced (UPDATED)

Talk around Nassau County for the past two days has been that Republican County Executive Bruce Blakeman had struck a new labor agreement, signed Monday, with the county's largest union, the Nassau Civil Service Employees Association. The CSEA, which include most non-law enforcement county employees, has been working without a contract since the end of 2017. As of June, there were 3,359 fulltime CSEA members. An announcement went out late today but it didn't say much: A spokesman for Republican County Executive Bruce Blakeman did not respond to an email today asking when the CSEA deal would be announced. Everyone is looking at the CSEA because exempt employees -- county workers who are hired and fired at will -- traditionally are given the same benefits as the union members. But the exempts are not happy with some of the rumors about the agreement: one is that the CSEA will take a lesser health insurance plan in return for an upfront payment, perhaps of $1,500, for each member.

CSEA retirees file suit to stop new contract insurance change (Updated)

Civil Service Employee Association retirees today were in court attempting to stop a change in health insurance included in a new union contract scheduled to take effect Jan.1. The "Nassau Retirees Legal Fund" and eight other CSEA employees argue in a class action lawsuit filed today against Nassau and County Executive Bruce Blakeman in Nassau Supreme Court that they face  " imminent and irreparable medical, emotional, and financial harm because the County intends to deprive them of promised health benefits in 2024." The new contract negotiated between the union and Republican County Executive Bruce Blakeman and ratified by members in August changes the health insurance from New York's Empire plan -- which provides platinum coverage -- to the New York Excelsior plan. The Excelsior plan is more costly for union members but less expensive for the county.  Update:  The state, meanwhile, has increased rates for the Excelsior plan -- in come cases by more than 40 pe

Democrat lawyer prepares to challenge Donnelly for Nassau DA

                                                                               From Aloise Linked in Post A female Democratic lawyer backed by former Democratic Congresswoman and former Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice is trying to gather support to make a run against Republican District Attorney Anne Donnelly next year. Nicole Aloise, the daughter of a prominent New York City judge,  has a fundraiser scheduled  tomorrow night at the Garden City home of developer Peter Florey, president of the New York State Builders Association. Tickets range from in price from $250 to $20,000. Aloise says in a post announcing her campaign on Linked In that she has been a prosecutor in both the Nassau and Queens District Attorney offices. A quick internet search shows no other runs for political office or political activities. Donnelly, of Garden City,  was relatively unknown in 2021 when she defeated then State Sen.
