Kaiman throws his hat into two rings

Jon Kaiman

Uh-oh.

North Hempstead Democratic Councilwoman Veronica Lurvey and Nassau Democratic Legislator Josh Lafazan better look over their shoulders.

A high-profile Democrat may be on their heels.

Former North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman, who finished second in a Democratic primary for the Third Congresional Seat won by Republican George Santos last year, today emailed supporters that he is gearing up for another run -- for either his former town job or the Congressional seat.

Kaiman, a former district court judge, was North Hempstead Supervisor from 2004 into 2013. He also served as chairman of the Nassau Interim Finance Authority, the county's financial control board, and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo's coordinator for Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts. He most recently has worked as a deputy for Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.

But Bellone, a Democrat, is term limited and will be out of office by December.

Democrat Lurvey clearly has set her sights on running this year against North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, a registered Democrat who won the town's top office as a Republican two years ago.

Lurvey has issued rival press releases and videos every time DeSena has made public comments. She said she plans another video response to DeSena's state of the town speech this year like she did last year, according to the Island360.

Would Kaiman primary Lurvey?

And then there is Congress.

Josh Lafazan, who finished third in the Congressional primary last year, already has thrown his hat into the ring for Congress, holding near daily press conferences slamming Republican Santos.

Santos has been revealed to be a serial liar about his background but has refused to resign.

Although Lafazan, of Woodbury,  has said he also plans to run for re-election to the county legislature this year, it looks like he has been redistricted out of his District 18 legislative seat.

And what about public relations executive Robert Zimmerman and former U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi?

The only reason there was a Democratic primary for the Third Congressional Seat was due to Suozzi declining to run again, choosing instead to make an unsuccessful bid for New York State governor last year.

Now Suozzi has reportedly regretted that decision and is mulling a run for his old seat.

Zimmerman was the winner of the Democratic primary, but lost to Santos after running a campaign based on gun control and abortion rights rather than bashing Santos' sketchy background.

Zimmerman also is considering a rematch.

However, it should be noted, that Zimmerman -- not Kaiman -- picked up all the notable North Hempstead endorsements last year, including the backing of Lurvey.

This is getting complicated.

Here is Kaiman's announcement:
