Could the Glen Cove GOP leader be next Hempstead Town Attorney?

The scuttlebutt around Nassau in the last few weeks has been that Glen Cove lawyer John Maccarone would be the next Hempstead Town Attorney, replacing Joseph Nocella, who was appointed to the District Court bench last week.

Maccarone, a Republican, is a former Glen Cove councilman and planning commission member, whose son,  Kevin Maccarone, also an attorney, is a current Glen Cove Council member.

In Glen Cove, the administration party seems to change with the seasons: Democrat, Republican, Independence and back again. Currently, Republicans are in control.

Maccarone also happens to be the Nassau Republican leader for Glen Cove.

His move to become Hempstead Town Attorney seemed somewhat unlikely because Glen Cove is not part of Republican-controlled Hempstead Town.

Town Republicans had grumbled when former Democratic Town Supervisor Laura Gillen, who served from 2018 through 2019, appointed some of her top executives from outside of Hempstead, including former Long Beach Public Works Commissioner Jim LaCarrubba as her chief of staff and former NIFA director Adam Haber of North Hills, to be an executive assistant.

Gillen said then she wanted the best people available who brought a fresh perspective to the town.

So the scuttlebutt about Maccarone seemed just talk.

Until Maccarone was seen in Hempstead Town Hall on Friday, apparently being shown around and introduced to staff.

Hmmm. Maybe he will be the new town attorney.

Maccarone has a private law practice in Glen Cove, which has received some sterling reviews on the internet and a few gripes too.
