Bynoe drops out of 4th District Congressional race

Upended by redistricting,  Nassau Legis. Siela Bynoe (D-Westbury) today suspended her race for the 4th District Congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Kathleen Rice (D-Garden City.)

Bynoe was drawn out of the district when New York's special master redrew the boundary lines for state and Congressional offices.

Her Westbury home landed in the 3rd District, being vacated by U.S. Rep. Thomas Suozzi, a Glen Cove Democrat.

The mostly North Shore 3rd district already is swamped with Democratic candidates including public relations executive Robert Zimmerman of Great Neck, Nassau Legis. Joshua Lafazan of Woodbury and Former North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman.

The 4th District, which runs from mid-Nassau south,  also is not lacking for Democrats seeking the nod for the party designation in November. Candidates include Malverne Mayor Keith Corbett, former Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen of Rockville Centre and Nassau Legis. Carrie Solages of Lawrence.

Bynoe, one of four African-American county legislators, is known for her tough but reasonable questioning on the legislature while supporting rational progressive viewpoints.

"While I am tremendously disappointed by this outcome," Bynoe said in a post on her personal Facebook page. " "I step aside with a greatful heart because of the trust that so many people placed in me -- passion that fueled our momentum in this grassroots campaign. To everyone who supported our campaign,-- thank you from the bottom of my heart."
