Letitia James knows how to get media attention

From Nassau County Democrats mobilize the vote

You have to hand it to New York Attorney General Letitia James.

The New York City Democrat knows how to get publicity.

James has gotten more news stories in the past 24 hours saying that she is expected to announce a run for the governor's office next year than former Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul got when she actually announced she was running for governor --  after she inherited the top job when Andrew Cuomo resigned in August.

As of 6 p.m.,  James had yet to actually announce. How many days will she keep everyone guessing -- though, of course, everyone in the political world expected her to run for governor when she effectively took out Cuomo by releasing two negative reports about him; the first about coronavirus deaths in nursing homes and the second accusing him of violating state and federal law by sexually harassing 11 women.

Cuomo denied the allgations but still stepped down..

And now James will be appearing with Hochul in Valley Stream on Sunday.

To get out the vote in the local elections Tuesday when voters will choose the county executive and district attorney.

How uncomfortable will that be? Two rival candidates for the governor's office appearing together.

James is a city progressive who has lots of city support. Hochul was thought to be a moderate upstate Democrat, who immediately began cultivating progressive support when she became governor

Hochul has received the endorsement of Nassau Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs, who is also the state chairman, and Suffolk Democratic chairman Rich Shaffer. Both will lose political influence if James beats Hochul in a primary.

Wonder if James will have the moxy to make her announcement for governor as she stands next to Hochul on Sunday?
