Meet this year's cross-endorsed judges (Updated)

Nassau's political parties have cross endorsed seven judges this year, six for Supreme Court in Nassau and one for family court.

They are all current judges who are either being promoted or re-elected. And yes, this is Nassau after all; some have obvious political connections.

Being cross-endorsed is equivalent to being elected. So meet your judges.

* Danielle M. Peterson, a Republican who was cross-endorsed and elected to Nassau's family court in 2014, is being crossed-endorsed for Supreme Court. Peterson is the daughter of former Hempstead Supervisor Greg Peterson, who has remained a senior advisor the Nassau Republican party.

*Eileen Daly-Sapraicone,
a Republican cross-endorsed for family court in 2017 after losing a year earlier when she ran without the Democratic line, is now cross-endorsed for Supreme Court. Her husband, Michael Sapraicone is a former NYC police detective and founder/owner of Squad Security, Inc., which provides security for many large Fortune 500 companies, including Apple. Sources say Sapraicone is close to former U.S. Sen. Alfonse D'Amato, who is a senior advisor in the Nassau Republican party.

Vito M. DeStefano

* Vito M. DeStefano, a Conservative elected to the Supreme Court in 2007, is cross-endorsed for re-election this fall. He handles commercial cases. He voluntarily moved out of his third-floor chambers in Mineola earlier this year to make way for former Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas when she was appointed to the state's Court of Appeals.

Tim Driscoll

*Timothy S. Driscoll, a Democrat who was elected to the Supreme Court in 2007, is cross-endorsed for re-election this November. Driscoll is assigned to the commercial division but he also sits on the the appellate term, which hears appeals from district courts. He was a deputy for former Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi, a Democrat.

* Elizabeth Fox-McDonough, a Democrat who won a seat on District Court in 2017 without cross endorsement, has been cross-endorsed for Supreme Court this fall. Currently she is the supervising judge of Nassau's district courts.

*Conrad Singer, a Democrat who has served on family court since 2007 and was re-elected without Republican support in 2016, is now cross-endorsed for Supreme Court.

 * Darlene Harris, a Republican, was first elected to district court in 2014. She ran again with cross-endorsement in 2020. This year she has been cross-endorsed for family court.

Harris is a former Nassau County legislator and former chairman of the county Assessment Review Commission under former Republican County Executive Ed Mangano. Her father, Bishop R.W. Harris, is the influential pastor and bishop of Grace Cathedral International

Earlier, longtime Legis. Vincent Muscarella, a Republican from West Hempstead, was cross-endorsed for district court. Muscarella is one of the original members of the county legislature, which started in 1996 after the former board of supervisors was ruled unconstitutional.

The story is that Muscarella is looking to bump up his pension after serving for so many years at salary of $39,500. The legislature's salaries finally moved up to $75,000 in 2018 with automatic annual cost of living increases after that. The annual salary of a district court judge, however, is nearly $200,000 if not more. (It's unclear, because of the pandemic, whether judicial salaries were increased.)
