Veronica Renta Irwin to be appointed 2nd District Court Judge today

The Nassau legislature today is expected to approve the appointment of Levittown attorney Veronica Renta Irwin to replace Gary Carlton on the 2nd District Court.

Democrat Carlton was elected to the Supreme Court in November as part of a cross-endorsement deal between the county Republican and Democratic parties.

Irwin is the principal law clerk for Supreme Court Justicc Sharon Gianelli and is past president of the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association.

Republican Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman's nomination of Irwin to the District Court bench was sent to the legislature for approval today by emergency.

Some Republicans wondered why former Nassau Presiding Officer Rich Nicolello, a New Hyde Park Republican, was not nominated, but the cross-endorsement deals observed by both parties for a number of years made Carlton's replacement a Democratic choice.
